Ed Bidwell was honored for his service to the American Legion at a recent Tioga County Legion Meeting.

On Sunday, May 1 at the Tioga County Legion Meeting, the outgoing County Commander Ed Bidwell was honored for the many years of service to the American Legion in both Owego and the County. A plaque was given to Bidwell by the attending past three county commanders – Tom Simons, Ken Patterson and Donald Barber.

Also, attending were the 6th District Commander Fran Riter, 6th District First Vice Commander Robert Gardner, and members from Nichols American Legion, Waverly American Legion and Owego American Legion.

At the meeting, new county board members were sworn in by the district commander. James Barrett from the Waverly American Legion was sworn in as new County Commander, Tom Simons of Owego American Legion was sworn in as First Vice, Ed Bidwell as Second Vice, Will Chaffee of Waverly Third Vice, Ken Patterson of Owego as Treasurer, Ken Gillett as Adjutant, and Waverly members Dan Eiklor as Chaplain, Nate Harvey as Historian and Donald Barber as Sergeant of Arms.

After the meeting the board held a light lunch, which was served at the Waverly VFW Post 8104 canteen. The next Tioga County meeting will be held at the Nichols American Legion on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016.
