Nichols Fire Department receives Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation grant

The Nichols Fire Department of Nichols New York recently received a $3,800.00 grant from the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation to fund the purchase of three automated external defibrillators, also known as AED’s.

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Having an AED readily available to EMS staff has become a very important tool in saving lives because they deliver rapid and prompt delivery of cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

The Nichols Fire Department and Emergency Services is a non-profit organization serving the village and town of Nichols, N.Y.

The Nichols Fire Department also received a non-discretionary grant that will be used to purchase items for their newly formed Emergency Support Staff (ESS). The ESS team is an internal group of members that supports every phase within the Fire Department. The ESS team is a 24-hour on-call group of members that provides on-scene support.

These combined grants received from the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation have greatly helped the department reach a goal of improving the quality of life for the residents of the region as well as providing the ESS team with the tools they need to support every volunteer that serves the community.
