Midfielder Jack Rollison scored the critical second goal in the Hiawatha Hammerheads 3 to 2 victory over Rochester Futbol Club on Sunday at Monroe Community College.

A one-touch flick by forward Jacob Banks early the second half proved to be the winning goal for the Hiawatha Hammerheads boys team in a 3 to 2 win over Rochester Futbol Club at Monroe Community College in Rochester on Sunday, May 8. The victory followed a Hammerheads 6 to 2 victory the previous evening at the West Seneca Soccer Complex in Buffalo over the Global Premier Soccer team.

Outside back Kaden Hover, who netted two goals, was one of five different Hammerheads goal scorers in Saturday’s match.

Midfielder Jack Rollison joined Hover is scoring first half goals in advance of Banks’ winning second half tally in Sunday’s contest.

Midfielder Jace Riegel was awarded the “shark hat” by the Hammerheads coaches for his excellent play on the weekend.

As the result of this weekend’s performances, Hiawatha Hammerheads of Owego sit atop the table in the Under-11 Boys First Division of the Thruway League with a record of 2-0-0 at this very early stage of the 2016 season.

Thruway League is the premier soccer league in central and western New York State and serves as the qualifying league for the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series for New York State West Youth Soccer.

The Hammerheads next two matches will be home contests when they take on Global Premier Soccer from Buffalo at Hickories Park in Owego on Sunday, May 15 at 3:30 p.m. and then face Empire Soccer Academy from Rochester at Ward’s Field on Route 96B in Candor on Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m.

Hiawatha Hawks Complete An Undefeated Weekend

The Hiawatha Hawks girls team, competing in the Under-12 Girls Division 1 of the Broome County Soccer Association, defeated Oneonta Strikers on Saturday, May 7 by a 4 to 1 score.  That match was followed on Sunday by a 2 to 2 tie versus the undefeated Ithaca Crimson Power team.

The Hiawatha Hawks are coached by Kari Ryder-Morton and Lauran Murphy.

Broome County Soccer League currently includes 186 teams from 28 clubs that extend from Cooperstown in the east to Corning in the west.  Hiawatha Soccer Association is a Broome County Soccer League member club.
