Local Girl Scouts earn highest awards

Local Girl Scouts are among the more than 600 from the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways that have received the prestigious Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement a girl can earn in Girl Scouting. This award challenges girls to change the world – or at least their corner of it. Girls complete a multi-step take action project that solves a community problem for years in to the future and are also eligible for college scholarships. Five local girls are among those that have earned the award this year. They will be recognized at a Young Women of Distinction luncheon following the council’s annual meeting on May 21 at Drivers Village in Cicero. Local girls earning the Gold Award are: Jessica Duff and Katelynn Ossege of Apalachin; Rebecca Jones of Grand Gorge; Linnea Kolanda of Binghamton; and Lauren Myers of Vestal.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award that girls in sixth through eighth grades can earn. Earning the award gives girls the chance to show that they are leaders who are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their communities. Girls must complete a take action project that helps to make their community better.

This year 25 area girls are earning the Silver Award: Hailey Birtch, Kristina Kadlecik, Erin Perry, Kayden Rowe, and Madison Stewart of Johnson City; Lindsey Branigan and Mikayla Reinshagen of Greene; Nina Collavo and Molly Feustel of Endwell; Janelle Dilfer, Lilie Horton, Jessica Howe, Madalynn Howe, and Karley Miller of Oxford; Kathryn Hawkins and Shalleigh Taranto of Mt. Upton; Michaela Henderson and Mercedes Stiner of Conklin; Tyler Lindner and Emile Philippone of Norwich; Molly Osborne of Sherburne; Genevieve Picciano and Maeve Verity of Endicott; Kelsey Pope of S. New Berlin; and Emily Zollbrecht of Binghamton.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award that girls in fourth and fifth grades can earn. Girls work within teams to plan and complete take action projects. Through the process girls meet new people and have fun working with other Girl Scouts to make a difference.

This year 99 area girls are earning the Bronze Award from the following troops: Troop 30007 from Oneonta; Troop 30105 from Vestal and Apalachin; Troop 30123 from Hubbardsville, Sherburne N. Norwich, Earlville, and Smyrna; Troop 30132 from Oneonta; Troop 30191 from Arkville, Denver, and Fleischmanns; Troop 30223 from Endicott; Troop 30267 from Whitney Point, Lisle, and Glen Aubrey; Troop 30448 from Whitney Point, Lisle, Richford, and Binghamton; Troop 30549 from Arkville, Fleischmanns, Halcott Center, and Roxbury; Troop 30582 from Endicott and Endwell; Troop 30944 from Gilbertsville and Mt.
