St. Baldrick’s event organizers thank the community

Dear Editor,

Wow! What a day April 3 was in Candor. The cold and snow didn’t stop anyone from participating in the Candor 6th Annual St. Baldrick’s Event. From the 50 plus runners and walkers that braved the blowing snow and cold for our first ever 5K to the 45 shavees who became bald to stand in solidarity with kids with cancer. Together along with the sponsors, donations, raffles and food purchases we have raised more than $33,000 for childhood cancer research.

The event organizers would like to thank everyone who made this day possible to include the runners, walkers and shavees, and every business and individual who donated money, raffles, food and their time to the event. The success of the event couldn’t happen without all the generous people we have in the Southern Tier.

A thanks goes to the Candor Fire Hall for the venue. Businesses and individuals who were event sponsors, 5K shirt sponsors and donated raffle items, include Tioga State Bank, Tioga Downs, All Star Sports, the Candor American Legion Auxiliary, Becky’s Beauty Shop, Billion Berry Farm, Brother’s 2, Candor Elementary School teachers and staff, Candor American Legion, Chuckster’s Family Fun Center, Coca Cola Bottling, D-Crete, Diane and Lynn Craig, Fay’s Fitness, Finger Lakes Soap Company, Frito Lay, Ginny Dawson, Gretchen Huizinga, Hi-Way Dairy Bar, Imagine Hair Studio, Iron Kettle Farm, Ithaca College Campus Store, Ithaca College Natural Lands, Katie’s Kreations, Lou and Sue Heavenrich, Marios’ Pizza, Owego Tops, Pam Sweeney, Pepsi Beverage Company, Owego Price Chopper, Proper Puss, Rasa Spa, Road ID, Rossi’s Pizza, Runningwulf.com, Sandy Jordan, Scott Smith & Son, Scrappy Ladies, Side Hill Acres, Sincerely Yours, Sons of American Legion Tent Rental, Stormpeak CrossFit, The Laughing Place, The Owego Pharmacy, Ithaca Walmart, Ithaca Wegmans, Winnie Allan, Yeaman Athletics and Nutrition, and Bob Riggs for all your work with the 5K and Jim Douglas for the stage. A special thanks to all who worked the 5K and the shave event.

We hope you will be able to join us again next year.

Sincerely,

The entire committee of the Candor St. Baldrick’s event
