In discussing minimum wage, it is important to consider all factors that would be affected by its change. To start off, obviously the workers would be paid more, but at what cost?
For example, the current minimum wage is at $9, but if it were truly expected to reach $15, then the consumer, as well as the business owners would most certainly feel the effects.
In terms of big corporations with money to spare, it may not be such a big deal but considering small business owners, it could be detrimental. The rise in cost even gradually, will put immense pressure on these owners to make more money, in turn raising the consumer prices.
The rise for minimum wage may sound great in concept, but in practice it hurts more than it helps. The idea is rich in empathy and reassuring to see people trying to look out for others, but we will have to find other, more sensible options.
