Calaboose Grille to participate in the March Madness of historic bars

Calaboose Grille to participate in the March Madness of historic barsCalaboose Grille was selected by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to participate in an online competition featuring 32 historic bars from across the country.

The second-annual “Big Tap” is part of the ongoing Historic Bars series on SavingPlaces.org, where National Trust staff select bars through research and social media crowd sourcing. This year’s bracket of 32, randomly chosen from bars featured over the past year, displays a wide range of geographic diversity, bar type and age. Bars that receive the most votes online will advance through the competition.

“From taverns to breweries, dives to cocktail lounges, historic bars bring color and character to our communities,” said Stephanie K. Meeks, president and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. “We are excited to celebrate these popular gathering places with the Big Tap, and we raise a glass to each and every participant. Salut!”

“It was a surprise and an honor to be one of 32 bar and restaurants selected from across the country to participate in this fun event. We are also very excited to have made it through to the second round. We’re proud to be representing Owego and all of upstate New York in this year’s Big Tap,” said Clark Hepworth, chef and manager.

The tournament began on March 14 and will continue in weekly rounds until the National Trust announces the winning bar during the first week of April.
