The Candor Community Services Corporation (CCSC) is pleased to announce they will be honoring Skip and Jeanne Jackson this year as citizens of the year. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Candor Fire Hall, 74 Owego Rd., Candor N.Y. The event is free and all are invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have been a vital part of Candor life for decades. They began promoting agritourism at Iron Kettle Farm before the word “agritourism” was invented. In this role they gave employment, entertainment, and family memories to thousands of people. They have also been active in church and nonprofit organizations, including longtime involvement with McKendree United Methodist Church of Candor and work with the 4-H Tractor Safety course.
Also, the CCSC is again seeking candidates for their college scholarship. Over the last three years they have awarded $3,000 in scholarships to college students who are also community volunteers. Nontraditional (adult) students and those attending trade school are encouraged to apply, as well as traditional high school seniors.
Applicants must reside in the Town or Village of Candor or the Candor Central School District. They must have a minimum grade point average of 2.7 (or 80 percent).
Applications will be available at the Candor High School, from Rose Blinn at the Candor branch of Tioga State Bank, or by email to candorite@gmail.com.
Candor Community Services Corporation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is “to promote the well-being and betterment of the Candor community and its members.” They welcome new donors, new board members, and new ideas for Candor. They meet in the Candor Free Library the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.
