Freedom is a precious thing

Dear Editor,

As I listen to all the promises from the candidates in the 2016 nomination for President, I cannot help but wonder, what will all these “government provided” promises do to our freedom.

For instance, we wanted a government subsidized medical plan for people who could not afford medical insurance; they call it the “affordable healthcare act”.  From what my daughter has told me, it is not affordable!

As I listen to all the promises, I cannot help but remember a story I heard many years ago. The story was about a bird.

The bird was used to going out and finding food for itself and its young. It’s “WORK”.

One day, the bird was offered a “free” worm, if it would give up one feather. The bird considered the offer, a nice juicy worm for just one feather? Yes, okay, I’ll do it.

So the bird gave up one of its feathers for this big juicy worm, the hurt from removing the feather was only temporary after all.

The next day as the bird went out again to gather food for itself and its young, and again it received the same offer. So the bird gave up another feather, and in return, got a big juicy worm.

This went on day after day for quite some time. Then all of a sudden, when the bird went out expecting to receive a worm for a feather, the subsidy was gone.

No problem, the bird thought, I will just fly around, and look for a fat juicy worm on my own. However, when the bird attempted to fly, it was not able to. Why? Because it had given up so many feathers, it was no longer able to fly.

It had given up its freedom to fly, to get a worm subsidy and that subsidy was then taken away without notice. Now it was helpless. How was the bird going to provide food for itself and its young?

It could no longer fly!

Freedom is a precious thing. Don’t give it away. Work is a blessing.

Sincerely,
