Computers classes prep for Tioga Job Fair

The Tioga Adult Learning Lab (T.A.L.L.), a computer instruction program of Literacy Volunteers of Broome – Tioga Counties, Inc., in collaboration with Tioga County, is seeking adults interested in learning basic computer skills, especially those who are looking for skills for employment. T.A.L.L. program workshops during March will focus on skills needed for job seekers, including classes for adults who want to attend the upcoming Tioga County Job Fair to be held on Tuesday March 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Owego Treadway in Owego, N.Y. All computer instruction and job assistance workshops are no cost and open to the public.

Classes offered during March 2016 with the job seeker in mind are “Resume Success”, offered on Monday, Feb. 29 and Tuesday, March 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the T.A.L.L. program site, Room 105, Owego Free Academy, Owego. This class is a two evening session focusing on writing and/or updating your resume using Microsoft Word.

“Tips for Navigating a Job Fair” is scheduled at two locations: Thursday, March 3, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Tioga Employment Center, Tioga County Health & Human Resource Building, Rte. 38, Owego and Thursday, March 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the T.A.L.L. program site, Room 105, Owego Free Academy (OFA), Owego. This “job fair” workshop will offer useful tips on how to navigate a job fair while interacting with potential employers with positive results.

“Applying for Jobs Online”, scheduled for Monday, March 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Room 105, T.A.L.L. OFA site, is designed to offer assistance to those with questions on how to complete electronic job applications online.

Additional classes offered at the Room 105 T.A.L.L. OFA site are “Basics of Microsoft PowerPoint”, a presentation software program, on Tuesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. (attend both evenings); “Social Networking – Using Facebook”, on Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. (attend both evenings; and “Basics of Microsoft Publisher” on Thursday, March 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Although walk-ins are welcome, students are asked to pre-register for classes and workshops, and can do so by calling the Literacy Volunteers office at (607) 778-6406.
