Pictured, from left, are PDG Ed Kretsch, Lion Eve Kretsch and President Donna Henry.

The Owego Lions Club honored one of their members with a Melvin Jones Fellowship on Jan. 28. It is the highest honor received in Lionism.

The fellowship was created in 1973 to honor Lions Clubs International founder, Melvin Jones. It was created to acknowledge an individual’s dedication to humanitarian service.

PDG Lion Ed Kretsch presented a plaque, letter and pin to his wife, Lion Eve Kretsch. She is currently the secretary, and has held many of the offices within the club. Also, she was Zone Chair for District 20-E2.

Lion Eve was the first woman inducted into the club in 1987 after Lions Clubs International approved women to become Lions. In her 29 years of service, she has worked on many of the club’s service projects, fundraisers, and has been an asset to her club and community.
