Reality Check raises awareness about smoking in youth rated movies

Reality Check teens invite you to help prevent youth tobacco use. One of the many things they work towards is raising awareness about smoking in youth rated movies.

According to the U.S. CDC, kid-rated movies with smoking will recruit 3.2 million young U.S. smokers in this generation. This will result in one million entirely preventable deaths. Children deserve to watch movies that do not promote smoking.

The members of Reality Check from Tioga Central recently hosted a Winter Ball. They invited everyone to their Oscar’s themed photo booth. After getting pictures taken in the photo booth, students signed a poster asking the MPAA to get smoking out of children’s movies.

On Feb. 19, Reality Check will be at the Binghamton Senators game raising awareness further. Join them in asking the MPAA to give tobacco an R-rating, and watch the movie Goosebumps immediately after.

All ages are welcome. Tickets are $14 and can be purchased at http://bsens.formstack.com/forms/teenights.
