Obituary – William M. McLean III, 86

William M. McLean, III, 86, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, with his family by his side.

Bill was the son of William M. McLean, Jr., and Amy Clubley McLean. He was predeceased by his sisters: Jean S. Shenkman, and her husband Bernard Shenkman and Amy L. Van Pelt, his son-in-law Gregory W. Young, and his brother in-law, Richard Harris. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Van Auken McLean, three daughters – Victoria McLean Young, Greensboro, N.C., Deborah J. McLean (William D. Eggers), Webster, N.Y., and Christine A. Collins (Frederick Collins), Owego, N.Y., grandchildren Ryan (Sarah) Collins, Cincinnati, Ohio, McLean (Evelyn) Quinn, Washington, D.C., Erin (Donald) Harner, Ithaca, N.Y., William (Victoria) Young, Greensboro, N.C., Gregory (Janae), Phenix City, Ala., and Chloe B. Collins, Owego, N.Y. He is also survived by two great-grandsons – Caden E. Harner and J. Spencer Quinn, his sister-in-law Barbara V. Harris, his cousin Richard McLean, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill graduated from Binghamton Central High School and Alfred Agricultural Tech. He served as Vice President of McLean Department Stores, and retired from NYSE&G. His retirement years were filled with woodworking, fishing and enjoying his family.

The family is grateful to the staff of Good Shepherd Village nursing home for kind attention in Bill’s last months. Funeral services were planned for Saturday, Feb. 6 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Owego with the Rector Geoff Doolittle, officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Cemetery.
