T.A.L.L. offers computer classes for adults

The Tioga Adult Learning Lab (T.A.L.L.), a program of Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga Counties, Inc., in collaboration with Tioga County, N.Y. is now registering adults to attend computer classes to be held the months of January and February 2016. Grant funded, there is no charge for this computer instruction.

Open lab evenings will be held Jan. 21 and 27, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Adults can use computer software, use the Internet, check email, or apply for jobs online. Staff will be available for assistance, and there is no need to pre-register, drop-ins are welcome.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 11, the comprehensive class “The Basics of Microsoft Windows, Word & Excel” will be offered. This popular six-week class, geared at beginner and intermediate level computing, will meet Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Students will learn the basics of the Microsoft Windows Operating System, and learn skills in Microsoft Word (a word-processing program and Excel (a spreadsheet program). Pre-registration is required by calling the Literacy Volunteers office at (607) 778-6406.

The following classes are also offered: “Resume Success!” offered Wednesday, Jan. 13 and Wednesday, Jan. 20 (attend both sessions). Students will learn how to write and format their resume.

“E-Mail Basics” will be offered on Thursday, Jan. 14 – bring your email questions; and “Internet Made Easy!” will be offered on Thursday, Jan. 28. Do you have questions about using the Internet more effectively? Staff will assist you during this Internet class.

“Social Networking – Using Facebook” will be meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Thursday, Feb. 4 (attend both evenings). Learn how to keep up with the ever-changing privacy and security features of this and other Social Media sites.

“Basics of Microsoft PowerPoint 2010”, a presentation program, will be meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 10 and Thursday, Feb. 11 (attend both evenings).

All classes will meet evenings, from 6 to 8 p.m., in room 248 at the Owego Free Academy, Sheldon Guile Boulevard in Owego, N.Y.
