Candor man arrested after car bursts into flamesRobert J. Schumacher, age 34 of 257 Cass Hill Rd. in Candor, N.Y., was arrested on Dec. 6, 2015 at 2:38 a.m. for Driving While Intoxicated, Driving with a Blood Alcohol Content greater than .08 percent and Failure to Keep Right. The arrest followed an incident on State Route 96B when Robert Schumacher fell asleep and crashed his vehicle, which soon became engulfed in flames.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department, Robert Schumacher was traveling in a southerly direction on State Route 96B in the Town of Candor when he allegedly fell asleep, crossed into oncoming traffic, went off the eastern shoulder of the road and into some trees.

The Sheriff’s reported noted that Schumacher then left the scene, and his vehicle became engulfed in flames and was demolished. Robert Schumacher was located shortly afterwards in the Town of Candor.

Robert Schumacher was issued appearance tickets to appear before Justice Gary Dence, Town of Candor Court, at a later date.

The Candor Fire Department and Candor Squad assisted at the scene.
