Voice your opinion on Common Core

Dear Editor,

There are five entities that should receive postcards before Nov. 30, 2015. Governor Cuomo, New York State Capital Building, Albany, N.Y. 12224 – Suspend Common Core Testing for the 2015-2016 school year while Commissioner Elia collects and evaluates “Specifics of Common Core.”

New York State Board of Regents, 89 Washington Avenue, Albany, N.Y. 12234, you approved the Common Core – can you disapprove it?

Office of the Attorney General, The Capital, Albany, N.Y. 12224-0341, RFP 15-008 Mandatory Requirements #6, “All materials must be held strictly confidential and must not be copied, duplicated, or disseminated by any manner or discussed with anyone except as authorized by the New York State Education Department.” Can you approve a contract containing this? Legally? Constitutionally? Ethically?

Comptroller, 110 State St., Albany, N.Y. 12236 – “If Common Core testing is suspended, will New York State save $7.6 million this year? And possible projected $8.8 million next year?

Commissioner of Education Elia, 89 Washington Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12224: Children from school upbeat, positive, want to go back; downhearted, crying, concerned about homework, no art or music, no “fun.” Professional staff mandates requiring time not related to educational process. Administrative staff two to three hours per day “paper work” APPR Intimidation. Ultimate AAR – ballot box.

If you have a different message for any of the entities, share it. The ideas presented were possibilities.

Respectfully,

Joe Albrecht

Owego, N.Y.
