Remember the reason for giving “Thanks”

Dear Editor,

As thanksgiving is upon us, let us be reminded why we celebrate this day. The Pilgrims took time and set apart a time to give thanks to God for all the blessings they had received.

Their first winter in this continent was a disaster, many died of exposure to the elements for they had not enough time to build houses.

Many suffered from hunger because the gardens they did plant were planted too late for a bountiful harvest, so food was scarce.

But then in the second year, they had homes to live in, and they had planted gardens so they had food to eat and homes to live in. So they took time to give thanks to God for the bounty they had received.

May I suggest, that instead of stuffing ourselves, and then watching an endless string of football games, perhaps we should pause and give thanks to God for his blessings.

I challenge you (perhaps as a family) to list on a piece of paper 100 things that you are thankful for this Thanksgiving Day.

Sincerely,

Bill Pletcher
