Top names in the entertainment industry are taking notice of nine-year-old Binghamton, N.Y. resident, Evah Doheny. Since the age of six, Evah has had a passion for performing.

Excelling in acting, singing and dance, the almost ten year old has a manager, a theater agent, a music producer, a technical dance instructor and a voice coach, just to name a few, and new doors are opening as Evah strives for stardom.

Evah’s interest in performing was initially sparked by another activity she has excelled in, the martial arts, specifically karate. Taught by her father Bill, who is a Taekwondo master and black belt in Chinese Goju with a mix of kung fu, Evah has three state championships under her own belt.

Karate is the link that opened the entertainment world door, where at age six, she auditioned to perform in a television show fight scene starring well-known actor, Wesley Snipes. It was during that audition when Bill Doheny witnessed Evah’s overall performance ability and decided to pursue acting lessons for her.

Now three years later, Evah’s schedule is extremely busy with home schooling, acting, dance and voice lessons, along with trips to New York City for multiple auditions. Evah has worked with prominent voice coaches, two of who have worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga.

Evah’s past work has included local performances with EPAC, so developing her career to reach the next level to be “audition able” elsewhere is one of Evah’s goals, along with support from her parents, Bill and Paula Doheny.

Bill shared that during an audition for the hit Broadway show, “Annie,” Evah was one of ten girls remaining, an impressive accomplishment since 290 others got cut. However, Evah did not advance further and the family recognized she needed more specific dance skills.

Developing Evah’s dance technique soon became a priority, so the Doheny’s enrolled Evah at Kathy Hansen School of Dance (KHSOD) in Owego where they found dance instructor JoEllen Kuhlman the right match.

“Eva is a dance student here at Kathy Hansen School of Dance,” shared owner Kathy Hansen, and added, “We are working with her as she needs not only to be able to sing and act, but dance, too! We are helping Evah achieve her goal and become a ‘triple threat.’”

Evah showed off her talents at Owego’s Zombie Fest where she performed with KHSOD dancers in a special rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

More exciting news for Evah is her recent signing with well-known music producer Jens Gad. Evah will eventually make a trip to California to work on an album with Gad which will feature original songs, including those with messages about girl empowerment and anti-bullying.

Bill Doheny explained that trial and error and a lot of research was necessary in selecting the right people to help guide Evah’s career. Although utilizing dance instructors in New York City was also considered, it is not an option now since weekly trips to the Big Apple for other lessons and auditions takes time, and the family wants to remain rooted in Binghamton.

Bill shared, “Kathy Hansen’s School of Dance offers instruction to meet the very technical skills needed for Evah’s career, especially for Broadway. We now feel Evah’s team is complete.”
