Smash The Windows, from State College Pennsylvania, is the featured band for the contradance with some square dances on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tioga Trails Café located on the corner of Lake and Main Street in Owego.

Smash The Windows’ music includes Sligo-style Irish, New England jigs and reels, Bluegrass, and Old Timey tunes. Smash The Windows is Bruce Young on fiddle and Peggy Shutes on piano.

Bob Nicholson will be teaching and calling contra and square dances. Contradancing, like square dancing, is done to a walking step and is easy to learn. No experience is necessary. All dances are taught and prompted. Bring friends, family, or come by yourself. Partners not required.

General admission is $7, and $5 for students and seniors 55 and older. The family maximum charge is $15. For information, call Stu at (607) 687-4034 or April at (607) 657-8067.

This program is made possible in part, with public funds administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the New York State Council on the Arts.
