The weather cleared on time last Wednesday for Bike Night at Owego’s Parkview Hotel and Restaurant.

The skies cleared in time for a rocking performance by String of Pearls at Bike Night last Wednesday, a free event held along Front Street at Owego’s Parkview Hotel and Restaurant in Owego, N.Y. Although the forecast was showing rain up until 2:45 p.m., the weather changed for the better, and just in time for motorcycles, and even a couple classic cars to arrive for this weekly event.

With only two Wednesday evening events remaining, Phillips Head, featuring Dean Smith will perform Wednesday for Bike Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. under the white tent. On Sept. 2, Bike Night will end the season with a performance by The Cats, featuring Jeff Howell, former member of Savoy Brown, Foghat, and The Outlaws.

With an interesting name like Phillips Head, this Wednesday’s band is sure to bring some exciting beats to Bike Night in Owego from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

What first started as a six-piece band called Nasty Habits has now split off into three pieces. The lead singer and guitarist is Paul Phillips, Dean Smith performs Rhythm Guitar, and Tommy Woodburn on drums. The trio decided to add some bass and that’s where Ed McDowell comes in.

Phillips Head consists of friends and relatives joining together to play popular acoustic rock covers from the 60’s and 70’s. They perform anything from easy listening folk music to some faster dance tunes.

For bookings, their contact is Dean Smith at (607) 687-1803 or by email to dlsmith@warmcomfort.com.

Also at Bike Night on Wednesday, Aug. 26, Tioga County Rural Ministries will be on-hand conducting a fundraiser entitled, “Best Bike Contest” with a $5 registration fee that will benefit Tioga County Rural Ministries. They will also have a table set up (where registration will take place) with information about their charitable work within the community. They will also be accepting donations of non-perishable or monetary donations.

The winner of the “Best Bike Contest”, which will be called at 7:45 p.m., will receive a $50 gift certificate to Nick’s Garage in Apalachin, N.Y., a $25 gift certificate for the Parkview Hotel and Restaurant, and a $25 gift certificate redeemable at the John Barleycorn Tavern on Front Street in Owego, N.Y.
