Owego's Chris Wieckhorst wins Lacrosse Award

Chris Wieckhorst, right, is congratulated by his brother Matt Wieckhorst at the Bassett Ah-Wa-Ga Center.

Chris Wieckhorst was awarded the 2015 Bassett-Hall Lacrosse Plus Award for his dedicated commitment to the sport of lacrosse and his volunteer activities helping younger children learn the fundamentals of the sport of lacrosse.

Wieckhorst will be a senior at Owego Free Academy and plays on the varsity lacrosse team. He spends some of his free time coaching and mentoring younger players who are involved in the Tioga County Hawks Youth Lacrosse Program.

Wieckhorst was awarded a $ 250 educational award and certificate of distinction by the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, which each year recognizes a junior or senior OFA male and female who excel in lacrosse and volunteer service to their community.

The award is given in honor of Hall of Fame Scholastic Lacrosse Coach Tom Hall and Bob Bassett, one of his players at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.
