Due to overwhelming success, Major League Eating and Lupo’s will host the Tioga Downs World Chicken Spiedie-Eating Championship for the second year. The contest will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. trackside at Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols, N.Y.

The chicken spiedie is renowned throughout central New York and claims Endicott as its birthplace. This sandwich is comprised of grilled, marinated chicken cubes on a bun and the term “spiedie” comes from the Italian spiedo, meaning spit or spiedini, referring to cubes or balls of meat cooked on a skewer.

Sanctioned by Major League Eating, the 10-minute contest will feature Major League Eaters from around the country. Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, world champion eater will be competing. He recently lost to his biggest rival, Matt Stonie, at the Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Championship in Coney Island, N.Y. Chestnut set the World Chicken Speidie-Eating record last year by consuming 13.75 Lupo’s spiedies in 10 minutes.

Other Major League Eaters like #10 Juan Rodriguez, Chicago, Illinois; #13 Badlands Booker, Selden, N.Y.; #15 Yasir Salem, New York, N.Y.; and #19 Crazy Legs Conti, New York, N.Y. will be competing, all of whom recently competed at the Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest.

In addition to bragging rights, competitors will vie for a cash purse that totals $4,000.
