Man charged with Vehicular Manslaughter after fatal crash

On July 11 at approximately 5:35 p.m., the New York State Police at Homer responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a motorcycle on US Route 11 in the Town of Marathon, Cortland County, N.Y.

Investigation revealed that 42-year-old Christopher E. Tanner of Marathon, N.Y. was traveling northbound on US Route 11 when he crossed the center of the roadway and entered the southbound lane, striking a motorcycle being operated by 49 year-old Shanon L. Nasoni of Endicott, N.Y., which was traveling south. Nasoni was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. where she was thereafter pronounced deceased.

Tanner was found to be intoxicated at the scene and was arrested for driving while intoxicated, where after his blood alcohol content was determined to be .21 percent.

Tanner was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter in the first degree, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Failure to Keep Right. Tanner was arraigned in the Town of Marathon Court and subsequently remanded to the custody of the Cortland County Jail without bail.

The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by the Marathon and Virgil Fire Departments, Marathon Ambulance, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
