Guthrie is challenging patients, employees, and members of the community to stay active this summer with the 62 Challenge. The challenge is to complete 62 miles in 62 days – one mile a day during the months of July and August. The challenge encourages the community to get active by heading outdoors, exploring the area, and involving family, friends and neighbors.

Guthrie has created a website, www.62challenge.org, where people can go to get information on local walking trails, healthy recipes, and other ideas on how to live a more active, healthy lifestyle. Guthrie has also created a free MyFitnessPal group for the challenge, where participants can log in and share their success. This can accessed on the website.

Dr. Verlyn Warrington of the Guthrie Weight Loss Center said, “Maintaining a healthy weight is essential to remaining in good health. One of the factors associated with obesity is a sedentary lifestyle. In addition to its weight-related benefits, physical activity plays an important role in keeping bones healthy, positively impacts mood, anxiety and stress, and is a fun way for families, friends and communities to bond.”

Participants in the challenge pledge to log a mile a day from July 1 to Aug. 31, for a total of 62 miles in 62 days. All forms of physical activity are eligible, from walking and running to biking or swimming. Guthrie will also be issuing ‘mini-challenges’ throughout the summer on the Guthrie Health Facebook pages, so people should watch out for #62Challenge to share their success.
