Tioga Central School District passes budget

Tioga Central School District passes budgetIt was reported at 9:43 p.m., that the Tioga Central School budget has passed, with 70 percent of the votes needed for approval arriving. The total votes rendered were 1,573 with 1,076 yes votes and 441 no votes.

The re-vote will result in a 17 percent tax levy increase, versus the original proposed budget that would have resulted in a 30 percent tax levy increase.

Thanks to a personal donation from Jeff Gural, CEO of American Racing and Entertainment and owner of Tioga Downs, Vernon Downs, and the Meadowlands in New Jersey, the tax levy increase was lessened – most likely leading to the passage of today’s vote.

It was reported by School Superintendent Scot Taylor, that several cuts have also been made, check back later for more detailed information. Rick Stilton is on the scene at the school, reporting live.
