On Friday, June 19, the Owego Dog Owner’s Group (ODOG) will host the annual Straw Dawgs Strut their Stuff contest. Pre-registration is taking place now at Owego Agway, the Black Cat Gallery, and euPAWria for a fee of $10 per dog. There will also be on-site registration from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on June 19 at the event located by the Firemen’s Statue on the Courthouse Square, or up until 5 p.m. at the Black Cat Gallery on Front Street or the ODOG sidewalk booth.

The fee will support ODOG sponsored projects. ODOG’s current project is the oversight of a dog park currently under construction at Hickories Park in Owego that is funded by Adam Weitsman in memory of his sister, Rebecca Weitsman. The dog park will be the “Rebecca Weitsman Memorial Dog Park.”

There will be five categories this year for judging, to be announced. If you pre-register, be sure to bring your form to the courthouse square for the event.

This is ODOG’s second year of hosting the event, and they are looking forward to many more Strawberry Festival dog-friendly events to follow.

Unfortunately, ODOG will not be hosting the kissing booth this year as ODOG member Kathy Nichols-Newell’s beloved Larry passed away in November of 2014 at the age of 15. But Kathy now has two new rescue lab mixes that are being groomed for this job – Jack, a seven-year old Labradoodle and Jazz, a 6-month old puppy. But be sure to look for the kissing booth during next year’s Strawberry Festival.
