On Friday, June 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Baku, comprised of members Harry Nichols (lead vocals), Danny Morris (guitar and vocals), Justin Arnold (drums), and Mike Seeley (bass) will perform during the Strawberry Festival’s Block Party at Ahwaga Park in Owego, N.Y. (near the Barleycorn).

Member Danny Morris noted he began playing music in kindergarten, and singing in the choir. In second grade, Morris played saxophone, and by eighth grade he bought his first electric guitar. Morris has been playing for over seven years now.

Justin Arnold started playing drums in fourth grade. His teacher, at that time, let him borrow the drums for the summer, and he has been playing ever since. According to Arnold, his dedication is pretty clear with each performance.

Harry Nichols has been involved in music his whole life, often singing to himself, and auditioning for various musicals. By high school, Nichols transitioned from musicals to projects, and has been performing ever since.

Mike Seeley picked up the guitar in fourth grade, and never stopped playing.

The band originally formed with Danny Morris and his friend, Landon Thomas. They played for several years – going through countless drummers and holding auditions for numerous singers.

Justin Arnold was always the solid, backbone drummer that stuck with an extremely tight rhythmic sense and drive to move the band in diverse directions.

After an ad was posted on Craigslist in Ithaca, N.Y., Harry Nelson contacted Danny Morris, and things immediately blended.

“He had immense power and control over his voice,” said Morris.

But soon, Landon Thomas parted ways to pursue other avenues, and Mike Seeley, who was a good friend, rounded out the band.

Danny Morris, originally from New Jersey, has lived in Spencer, N.Y. for the last ten years. Mike Seeley and Justin Arnold both attended Owego Free Academy, with Seeley now residing in Apalachin, N.Y. Harry Nichols is from Delhi, N.Y., but now resides in Ithaca.

Baku describes them selves as a hard rock band that enjoys high-energy music that can get people up and moving.

“Whether its head banging or having your hands in the air we make sure that we have a tight rhythm section with heavy hitting riffs that are catchy and memorable,” said Morris. “We have a blended sound from an eclectic source of music ranging from eighties metal to modern day hard rock.”

The band is influenced by a wide range of artists to include Ozzy Osbourne, Breaking Benjamin, Alther Bridge, Disturbed, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Chevelle, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Seether, Shinedown, Sevendust and more!

The band has played all over the region to include the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, where they opened up for Day of the New.

Their biggest accomplishment so far was opening for platinum selling artist Tantric at the Downtown Quarterback in Endicott, N.Y. in the first year of playing shows.
