Daleanna Prosinski was crowned Little Miss Apalachin on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Apalachin Firemen’s Field Days. She is the daughter of John and Angela Prosinski of Apalachin, and the granddaughter of Karen Flint and Jack Crawford, also from Apalachin. Daleanna, age 9, is finishing the fourth grade at Apalachin Elementary School.

Eight-year old Emma Bryant, selected Little Miss Apalachin runner-up, also attends Apalachin Elementary School. Emma is the daughter of Michelle and Jeff Matolka, and Todd Bryant.

The seven contestants are all eight and nine year old girls that reside within the Apalachin Fire District. They were judged on communication skills, personality and appearance; contest attire was the contestant’s choice. Each participant engaged in a brief, casual conversation with the Mistress of Ceremonies, Rebecca Roden, of the Apalachin Fire Department.

Prizes were awarded. Daleanna received a trophy, $200 cash prize, rose bouquet, and a sash and crown. Jordan Greeno, Little Miss Apalachin 2014, presented the crown to the new Little Miss Apalachin. Emma received a trophy, $100 cash prize and a rose bouquet.

Other contestants were Tashia Ellis, Hailey Morris, Ryleigh Williams, Madison Lynn Allen and Maci Tokos.

The Judges were Jan Warner, Apalachin Fire Department; Martie Ritz, Campville Fire Department; and Caroline Crescente, Apalachin Post Master.

The Little Miss Apalachin contest remains a community favorite since 1971. From 1960 until 1970, teenage girl contestants participated. In addition to prizes, the Little Miss Apalachin winner and runner-up, along with Little Miss Apalachin of 2014, rode in chauffeured vehicles during the firemen’s parade.
