Updated: School voting results begin to arrive; Tioga Center Budget Fails

Tioga Center

The 2015-2016 Tioga Central School Budget failed to get the necessary 60 percent approval, 621-559.

The Bus Replacement passed 651-519

Record turnout for voting with 1,255 walk-in voters.

 

Candor

The 2015-2016 Candor Central School Budget passed 225-75.

The Bus Proposition passed 223-81.

Four Board of Education candidates for three seats:

Ray Parmarter – 225

Brent Doane – 234

Gary Henry – 199

Nathan Brace – 199

According to Education Law, there will be a special election within 45 days for the contested BOE seat. The Superintendent will discuss this process with both candidates on Wednesday, May 20.

 

Owego

The OA budget for 2015-2016 passed with 60 percent approval. The total vote count was 638-423.

The OA Bus Replacement Program was approved at 66% (total vote count was 700-341, with 20 abstentions).

The Apalachin Library Funding was approved with 54 percent voting in favor (572-396, with 93 abstentions).

And both incumbents were re-elected to the Board of Education. John Crosby received 825 votes, while David Barton received 838 votes.

 

Newark Valley

The NV budget for 2015-16 passed 241-85.

Board candidates elected are James Phillips, Thomas Darpino, and Ralph “Scott” Parmelee.

A proposition to issue serial bonds to purchase three school buses and one buildings and grounds vehicle at a total cost of $430,000 was approved 275-105.

A proposition to use $92,500 in Capital (Vehicle) Reserve to partially fund school buses and vehicles purchased was approved 253-111.

A capital project including improvements in all school buildings, a new bus garage, and other repairs and upgrades was approved 252-119.

Use $1,500,000 from Capital Reserves to pay a portion of this capital project was approved 253-89.
