The time has finally approached where I, along many others from the region, will be taking to the track to support the Relay for Life.

The Western Broome County Relay for Life event will be held from 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, until 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, at Dave Sammon Field in Vestal, N.Y.

Walking in the Relay for Life for me has been a goal of mine since 2011, when someone I care about was diagnosed with cancer.

This is not the first person in my life to have been touched by cancer, but this time it drove me to want to finally do something – and that’s what I will be doing as I participate in this relay.

While I still have a long ways to go on my weight-loss journey, I decided not so long ago not to put the fulfillment of my goal off any longer.

It may not yet be easy for me to walk the track; in fact it may be quite difficult. But I’ve come to realize that sometimes those things worth pursuing aren’t always easy.

I still have some difficulty walking the way I’d like, but I will be out there, doing my best and that’s what matters. Whether I walk a just a little or a lot, the American Cancer Society has my support.
