For the 20th year, the Bassett Youth Foundation will present Owego Free Academy graduating seniors with scholarships to pursue higher education. This year, the Foundation is pleased to announce it will be giving a new scholarship in honor of the Woodburn Family and their many years of service to Owego and its citizens.
The 2015 Louise H. and Robert L. Woodburn Family Scholarship recognizes outstanding community service activities and good character in a graduating senior at Owego Free Academy. In addition, other Foundation sponsored scholarships will honor past members of the Owego community who have made significant contributions to Owego, Tioga County, the State of New York and the Country through their years of service in business, the military, the legal community, and in civic organizations and churches.
The Robert Van Rensselaer Bassett Scholarship recognizes outstanding service to others, good character and excellence. The Charles and Harriet Hibberd Bassett Scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement, good character, and well rounded development. The David P. Beere Family Scholarship recognizes demonstrated good character, a high concern for others, an ethic of hard work, and a desire to attend a service academy or enter the military service.
In partnership with the Community Foundation for South Central New York, the 2015 scholarships will be presented to students and their families on Friday morning, May 15 in a short ceremony at the Ah-Wa-Ga Center office of the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, Inc. at 34 1/2 Lake Street in Owego.
