Auditions taking place for ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’

Initial auditions for the Ti-Ahwaga Community Players production of To Kill A Mockingbird are scheduled for Friday, May 8 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird by Christopher Sergel, is set in Depression-era Maycomb, Alabama circa 1935. A young Scout Finch lives with her father, Atticus Finch, an attorney, and her older brother Jem. When Tom Robinson, a black man, is accused of raping a white woman, Atticus is asked to represent him and accepts, knowing that decision will likely make him and his family unpopular in town.

Roles are available for three African-Americans, one man age 40-plus, one man age 18-30 and one woman age 30-50.

Roles for Caucasians are available for four men age 40-plus, three men age 30-plus, and one man age 20-plus.  For women, roles are available for three women age 30-plus and one woman age 17-25.

Lastly, there are roles for three Caucasian children, one girl age 9-12 and two boys age 10-15.

There are also opportunities for non-speaking extras of any ethnicity if you are interested in getting on-stage for the first time.

Actors should prepare a short monologue and will be asked to read from the script. Show dates are Oct. 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18, 2015 at the theater. Rehearsals will begin mid-August 2015.
