Barton man arrested after fleeing traffic stop

Cody D. Kinnunen.

On April 26, 2015, at about 12 p.m., New York State Police in Owego arrested Cody D. Kinnunen, 23, of Barton, N.Y. at his residence for the misdemeanor of Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, the Felony of Fugitive from Justice and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Earlier that morning Troopers had attempted to stop a 2000 Dodge Dakota for failing to keep right as it was traveling southbound on Oak Hill Road in the Town of Barton.

When the Troopers activated their emergency lights the vehicle accelerated and fled for a short distance before the suspect operator Cody D. Kinnunen jumped out from the passenger side door and fled on foot. His vehicle then continued about 100 feet unoccupied and struck a NYSEG utility pole. Later, Cody D. Kinnunen was located at his residence where he had walked to after fleeing the police.

An investigation also found that he is wanted by the State of Texas for a felony level offense of Unathorized Use of a Vehicle and it has full extradition in New York. Cody D. Kinnunen was arraigned before Justice Fravel at the Barton Town Court and then remanded to the Tioga County Jail without bail set at this time.

His next court date for Barton Town Court is on May 5, 2015.
