CNYFA Overall Points Trophies “retired” by the Owego Hose Team since 1990.

The Owego Fire Department (OFD) hosted the Central New York Firemen’s Association (CNYFA) spring meeting Saturday. The day’s events included a wreath laying ceremony in honor of CNYFA hose racing scorekeeper Chrissie Hughes who unexpectedly passed away earlier this year and all firefighter spouses at the Baker Firemen’s Fountain; the association’s spring meeting held at OFD’s new training facility; and a barbeque put on by the Owego Hose Team.

More than 50 members of the association participated in the meeting from all corners of Central New York. CNYFA represents firefighters and departments in 20 counties including Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne and Yates. The association supports and serves the volunteer fire service of Central New York, its firefighters and the public they protect through education, legislation, communication, recognition and community service.

OFD’s Emergency Support Services (ESS) who put on breakfast and past and present members of Owego’s championship hose team who provided lunch supported the meeting. The hose team presented the association with a new traveling overall point’s trophy after retiring the previous one last year.

The Owego Fire Department last hosted CNYFA’s annual convention in July 2010.
