United Water has been advised that some customers are receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be United Water or Owego Water Company. When questioned further, the caller hangs up. United Water has reported these incidents to the local police department.
These calls are not coming from United Water and customers should be careful not to give out any personal or credit card information.
Customers who suspect that the call may be a scam should hang up and report the calls to the police or to United Water at (607) 687-1491.
In addition, customers should closely examine the identification of any person claiming to be from the water company. United Water employees wear uniforms and I.D. badges with the company name and logo. The badge also shows the employee’s colored photograph, name, job title, and date the badge was issued. Customers can also look for a white United Water vehicle, which prominently features the logo.
