Grow your Garden with Cooperative Extension

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County is offering several fun and informative workshops during the next few weeks. Want to garden but hate weeding, tilling soil, and the like? Join Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) at Tioga Gardens to learn gardening the easy way. Learn how to grow vegetables in grow tubes, milk crates, special towers, and more. The workshop will be at 6 p.m. at Tioga Gardens on April 22.

The next day, join them to learn more about permaculture and how you can use permaculture concepts to grow more food throughout your property. Bring a sketch of your property, and they will begin to design the properties together to create beautiful and bountiful food forests. This workshop will take place on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the CCE Tioga offices, 56 Main St., Owego.

Have a bunch of perennials and want to learn how to divide them? Join CCE on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the CCE office’s demonstration garden to get your hands dirty and get experience dividing different perennials. If you dig up your own perennials, bring them along – they can divide them and pot them up so you can share your plants with friends and family.

Have you been thinking about growing your own small fruit and nut tree orchard? Join them on Saturday morning, from 9 to 11 a.m., on May 2 at Rural Ministries to learn how to plan, plant and maintain a small orchard.

Containers and planters are a great way to beautify your front entrance, back deck or porch. Learn how to plan and plant a container that will wow your friends and neighbors. Join CCE at their Tioga office at 6:30 p.m. on May 6.

The Master Gardener Grow Line is up and running! If you have a gardening question, give them a call Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons (typically 1 to 3 p.m.) and they will give you the information you need to have healthy flowers and plants.

Call CCE Tioga offices at 687-4020 to register for the workshops and for more information. Happy Gardening!
