M. Jean B. Dewey, 82.
M. Jean B. Dewey, 82, of 895 Bingham-Collins Rd., Sherburne, N.Y. passed into heaven on March 27, 2015. She was born May 2, 1932, daughter of Galen Barnes and Lois Healy Barnes.
Jean was raised in Sherburne along with her four siblings – Charles Barnes (deceased), Willis Barnes, Elsie Barnes Bennett, and Jim Barnes (deceased). She graduated from Sherburne High School and married Ward H. Dewey in 1950. They made their home at the “Dewey Nob” farm and welcomed five children into their family.
She was a long time member of the Columbus Community Church, a current member of the Sherburne United Church of Christ, and enjoyed helping with many church sponsored events. Jean enjoyed raising her family on the farm, working in the “Old” Sherburne Middle School cafeteria and had a sewing business out of her home for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Rogers Conservation Center. Jean loved cooking, handcrafts, taking pictures and spending time with family, friends, and the many wonderful neighbors around the farm.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 64 years, Ward Dewey and is survived by her children Tim and Betti Dewey of Mesa, Arizona, Colleen (Connie) and Dave Dewey-Wright of Owego, N.Y., and Chris Dewey and Laurie McLellan of North Chili, N.Y. Her beloved grandchildren, Brett Glazier, Amy Lindsay, Meghan Kelly, Michael Dewey, Kristi Mumford, Jordan Keller, Kendra Dewey-Wright, Lauren Dewey-Wright and step grandchildren, Max VanArsdale and Mya Haskins were her pride and joy.
She leaves behind her beloved great grandchildren Mitchell and Max Glazier, Alexis and Ayden Lindsay, Charles and Robert Dewey, Amelia Mumford and one more on the way. She also leaves behind several generations of beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of Jean Dewey’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Sherburne United Church of Christ, South Main and East State Street, Sherburne, N.Y. at 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Jean is predeceased by her daughter, Wanda Kelly (1999), her son, Allen Dewey (1999) and her grandson, Logan Keller (2010).
