This house, located in Castle Gardens near Vestal, N.Y. is just a memory of the 2011 flooding, as it remains slated for demolition. In spite of the damage that still remains in this area from Tropical Storm Lee in 2011, the river waters approached flood level on Friday afternoon at the Susquehanna River in Vestal, N.Y.

A flood warning was issued from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, N.Y. at 3:38 p.m. Friday for the Susquehanna River at Vestal. This warning will continue until Sunday afternoon.

At 3 p.m. Friday the stage was 19.6 feet. Flood stage is 18.0 feet.

NWS reported that minor flooding was occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

The river will crest near 20.0 feet around 8 a.m. Saturday, and then fall below flood stage after 2 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the NWS, at 20.5 feet, in that area, basements on Argonne Drive in Endwell, N.Y. have been known to flood in the past. Otherwise, they noted, there is lowland flooding within the natural flood plain.

In the Valley region, a flood warning was issued at 10 a.m. on Friday for the Susquehanna River at Waverly/Sayre, affecting Tioga and Bradford counties until late Saturday night.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the NWS estimated the stage to be at 12.7 feet – flood stage is 13.0 feet. The NWS forecasted the river would rise above flood stage by noon on Friday and crest near 14.1 at 2 a.m. Saturday, falling below flood stage by 8 p.m. Saturday.

The impact in this area, according to NWS, was projected to be flooding of the lowlands along the river from the towns of Barton and Nichols, N.Y. to Athens Township.
