American Red Cross offers First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Training class

The American Red Cross of the Southern Tier will host a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Training class on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon, and on Sunday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Red Cross office located at 620 E. Main St. in Endicott. The purpose of the course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross basic-level First Aid, CPR and AED courses.

To participate in the First Aid/CPR/AED instructor course, candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess current American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and/or AED certification(s) or the equivalent.

At the end of the course, candidates will be thoroughly familiar with the program materials and be able to:

• Exhibit the characteristics required of an American Red Cross representative and role model, and conduct courses in a manner that helps participants stay engaged in the learning process.

• Perform applicable first aid, CPR and AED skills at an appropriate skill level.

• Ensure participants’ health and safety during training.

• Maintain complete and accurate records and reports.

• Plan, organize and conduct the First Aid, CPR and AED courses in accordance with the requirements of the specific class they will be teaching.

• Monitor participants’ practice and provide corrective feedback and encouragement that is consistent with the skill chart.

• Recognize that the requirements in the skill assessment tool are criteria for ascertaining the proficiency of a participant’s performance.

• Choose the appropriate course and materials to meet the specific training needs of participants or groups.

The cost of the class is $250, which includes a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Kit and DVD. Anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer instructor may be eligible to receive the instructor training for free if certain criteria are met.
