Faces of Margraten needed

Erwin Flohr of the Netherlands needs help from the Tioga County community for the project Faces of Margraten. It is about giving a face to each American fallen hero who is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten, Netherlands, or whose name is on the walls of the missing.

Erwin provided pictures of three men for this project, John R. Thomas, Leroy M. Stahlman and Glenn A. Warner.

The three Tioga men, Edward E. Whalen, Richard A. Hoyt, and Walter R. Magee still don´t have pictures.

Army Sergeant Richard A. Hoyt of Candor died on April 13, 1945. Army Private Walter R. Magee of Lounsberry died on April 16, 1945. Edward E. Whalen of Straits Corners died on March 27, 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star. Glenn A. Warner of Owego died on Feb. 23, 1945. All four were awarded the Purple Heart.

From May 2 through May 5, pictures will be placed for people to see.

It would be wonderful if pictures could be added for these three Tioga County men – Edward E. Whalen, Richard A. Hoyt and Walter R. Magee.

Erwin sends his best regards and asks for help from the community. If you have a photo of one of these fallen heroes, please send them to V.F.W. Memorial Day Chairman Jim Raftis. You can contact Raftis by calling (607) 687-4229 or email to jraftis2@stny.rr.com.
