Farmer 2 Farmer Social – Growing for Tioga County Farmers’ Markets

The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Office of Tioga County invites homesteaders and farmers to its monthly Farmer 2 Farmer Pot Luck Social on March 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the CCE Conference Room in the basement of the Ronald E. Dougherty Office Building located at 56 Main St. in Owego.

The social offers a forum for local farmers and homesteaders from all experience levels to discuss issues relating to farmers’ markets in Tioga County. “Our goal,” shares Tioga CCE Ag Team Leader, Michele Kline, “is to begin cultivating more vendors for all of our local farmers’ markets.”

She added, “It’s that time of year when folks are preparing crop plans in anticipation of the melting snow. I want those who can grow to consider growing a little more and jump on board the local food movement.”

Farmers markets allow consumers to have access to locally grown, farm fresh produce, enable farmers the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with their customers, and cultivate consumer loyalty with the farmers.

“The fact of the matter is that people want to buy local food – our local farmers’ markets provide the venue making it a great marketing opportunity for farmers,” Kline added.

Each month, the CCE Tioga hosts an informal potluck dinner and discussion about a timely and relevant topic. Guest speakers are sometimes invited to share insights and to answer questions about specific topics.

Please RSVP by calling (607) 687-4020 or email Michele Kline at ms328@cornell.
