Black Cat Gallery to feature the music of ‘JFK’

Pictured is the artwork of Alicia Twoey.

The 1st Friday Art Walk at the Black Cat Gallery is featuring the music of “JFK”, a local group playing a mix of folk, rock and blues, Jim Overhiser, on guitar, Frank Bocek playing his harmonicas and Kelly Anderson, with her beautiful lyrics. Come listen to music this Friday night, March 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. for a fun night out.

Featured Artist of the Month for March is Alicia Twoey, an Owego Free Academy student by day and an artist by night. Although Alicia’s only formal education in art has been through high school, most of what she appreciates comes from a self-driven desire to learn.

After countless blogs, videos, books and many hours of practice over the years, Alicia slowly but surely began to draw and paint in a super realistic manner. In her junior year of high school, Alicia opened her own business to sell her artwork. It was the beginning of a lifelong career and passion.

The Art Walk will include Alicia’s drawings and paintings filled with life and color. Some of the pieces include paintings on sand dollars and on homemade paper. Alicia’s favorite forms to create are fish and underwater creatures and her biggest motivation to create comes from exotic animals that are not seen in daily life.

This year brings great pride and excitement as The Black Cat Gallery celebrates their 5th year in business. The Community Cat Contest will be back to help celebrate.

The Black Cat Gallery invites the community to enter the contest. Bring in a photo, a drawing, a poem and artwork, something that celebrates your cat. This is a contest, so there will be prizes in two categories – one for children and one for adults.

Bring in your entry from March 15 through April 15 to the Black Cat. The entries will be on display at the Black Cat Gallery through April.

The Black Cat Gallery offers a “Second Saturday Craft Class and Tea”. Enjoy learning a new craft with a basic jewelry making class on Saturday, March 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. One of their jewelry artists, Lisa Coniglio, will teach you how to make a pair of earrings or a necklace charm. Choose your own bead combination and take home your own creation, and enjoy a cup of tea. The class fee is $15 and includes instruction and supplies. Call 687-5550 to reserve your spot for the class. Make and Take!
