Purple Lighting Drum Line gets support Purple Lightning would like to thank Fred Ford, Bonnie Moyer and the Mello-Dears Girls Drum and Bugle Corps, Don VanScoy, and Dave Yale of Yale’s Music, Sayre Pa. for all their support and encouragement.

Purple Lightning is a new marching unit from Candor N.Y. The group made its debut performance appearing in the 2014 Owego Strawberry Festival. Crowds were surprised to see the corps style snare line playing on plastic garbage cans.

Purple Lighting Drum Line gets support After the Strawberry Festival the group went on to perform at the Candor 4th of July parade, Newark Valley Days, and Lights on the River in Owego. In October the group made flash mob like appearances called ” Lightning Strikes” at many of the Candor Fall Festival events.

They were invited and played at the Candor Chamber of Commerce dinner in December. A horn line was added for the first time at this performance. Purple Lightning also made a surprise performance for the Candor Elementary Purple Lighting Drum Line gets support School.

The group continues to grow, adding new members and instruments and guard members. Their first performances of 2015 will include the Woman’s Connected Conference, Endicott, N.Y. (May 1), Athens Art Festival (May 2) and the Candor Memorial Day. For more information email wendee10@juno.com.

Dave Yale, of Yale’s Music, donated 8 snare drum shells and the Mello-Dears funded the cost of drumheads, and the necessary parts to refurbish the drums to get them in performing condition. Hopefully, they will be ready for the summer parade season.
