Candor Highway Department barns destroyed by fire

On Monday, crews responded in the late afternoon to a fire at the town of Candor Highway Department building, and subsequently declared a State of Emergency as the flames engulfed the building.

The building was significantly damaged during the fire, and equipment lost. According to reports, the fire started in a 13-year-old truck and caused damage in the building as well as burning 60 percent of the trucks. Reports stated that there was approximately $2 million worth of damage.

Crews from Candor, Spencer and Weltonville all responded.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Monday as of this reporting.
