Dr. Keith Nichols re-qualifies as certified MRO

Dr. Keith Nichols MD.

Dr. Keith A. Nichols MD of Owego, N.Y. recently re-qualified as a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO). His offices are at 130 Temple St. in the village.

Dr. Nichols was recertified by the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC), an independent physician-based certifying body that conducts a rigorous and extensive application process and written credentialing examination to identify licensed physicians with the highest professional standards of medical expertise and practical skills necessary to evaluate drug and alcohol test results in public and private sectors of the workplace.

The U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, most Fotune 500 corporations and many smaller companies require employee drug and alcohol testing. More than 20 million forensic drug test specimens are processed by certified laboratories every year and the results of these laboratory tests are reviewed and interpreted by credentialed physicians acting as MROCC-Certified MROs.

In addition, Dr Nichols is authorized by New York State for the treatment of opiate addiction with Buprenorphine (Suboxone, etc.) and works in close conjunction with Barry Schecter MSW-R (Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor) and SAP (Substance Abuse Professional) in the treatment of various drug and alcohol problems in addition to his activities as a Family Medicine Physician, FMCSA-certified examiner for the DOT and Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA.

He is involved in the training of medical students and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine for the Clinical Campus of SUNY-Upstate Medical Center.
