Guthrie CEO named to Top 100 list for second year running

Joseph A. Scopelliti, MD, president and chief executive officer at Guthrie, has been named one of Pennsylvania Business Central’s (PBC) Top 100 People of 2014. This is the second time Dr. Scopelliti has received this award.

According to PBC, the Top 100 list includes business people from all levels who have made a major impact in their community and business-to-business world in the past year.

“Our primary mission at Guthrie is to improve the health and well-being of every community we serve. I am honored to have been recognized for helping to carry out this mission,” said Dr. Scopelliti.

Dr. Scopelliti joined Guthrie in 1984 and today is both the CEO and a practicing gastroenterologist at The Guthrie Clinic. His current role gives him responsibility for the $600 million integrated delivery system consisting of over 400 employed medical providers within the medical group, three hospitals, a research and education foundation and related ancillary businesses.

He serves on the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association as well as the CEO Council of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and has served on many regional boards and civic organizations throughout his 30-year career. Dr. Scopelliti also acts as a Clinical Instructor with the State University of New York Upstate Medical University at Syracuse, N.Y. and since 2005 he has also been associated with the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y., as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine.

Pennsylvania Business Central is a regional media outlet serving 23 counties of the central Pennsylvania business community since 1991. Its mission is to provide information, analysis and news as a business-to-business conduit throughout its coverage area.
