Sixty-three year old Douglas Every, of the Town of Tioga in Tioga County, N.Y. and well-known local realtor, will be back in court today to face sentencing for the 1st degree Manslaughter verdict handed down to him in the Tioga County Court in November. Douglas Every was charged, and then found guilty by a jury of his peers for the stabbing death of 39-year old Milton Jump Jr. that took place on Oct. 23, 2013 at the defendant’s Thorn Hollow Road residence.

Following the verdict this past November, Douglas Every was remanded to the Tioga County Jail without bail, where he has remained since.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which an argument ensued at the defendant’s home on Oct. 23, 2013 that left Milton Jump Jr. with a fatal stab wound to his chest.

Following a week of jury selection, testimony, and a short period of deliberations, Douglas Every was found unanimously guilty of a lesser charge of 1st Degree Manslaughter.

Douglas Every was originally charged with Second Degree Murder, but was found not guilty of this charge. Douglas Every was, however, unanimously found guilty on charges of Manslaughter 1, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Douglas Every was also found not guilty on Evidence Tampering charges, and the sentencing will take place at the Tioga County Courthouse on at 10 a.m. with Judge Keene presiding.
