Guthrie post-concussion support group to meet

The Guthrie post-concussion support group for athletes and their families will hold its next meeting on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. in the 4 Blue Conference Room located on the fourth floor of the Guthrie Medical Group in Sayre, Pa. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The group offers support to athletes, and their families, who are dealing with sports related post-concussion syndrome and those who have been forced to stop playing sports or working because of repeated concussions.

This month’s guest speaker is Amy Johnston, band director at Sayre High School. Johnston will talk about the importance of accommodations for concussed students coming from the perspective of both the teacher and student.

Johnston will also talk about her daughter’s battle with Post Traumatic Vision Disorder and the Visual Therapy program that she is going through to reduce her symptoms from a concussion she sustained.

For more information, contact Steven Hicks, MS, ATC, by email to twintierspcsg@gmail.com. The group also maintains a Facebook page, Twin Tiers Sports Post-Concussion Support Group.
