SNAP is here to help

Dear Editor,

New Yorkers work hard. For some of these hardworking New Yorkers though, it’s still a struggle to make monthly ends meet. These New Yorkers may be eligible for SNAP, which could supplement their monthly food budget. SNAP helps working parents buy healthy food for their families. It also helps the local economy by bringing much needed revenue to local grocery stores, bodegas, and farmers markets.

Despite the benefits of SNAP, applying may seem like a daunting task because time is at a premium for working parents. Fortunately recent changes in the program make it even easier for working families to apply, including the possibility of applying online. The local Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) Coordinator can help families find out if they might be eligible for SNAP. NOEP Coordinators can help with the application process from start to finish.

Anyone in Tioga County interested in getting more information about SNAP or getting a free and confidential prescreening to find out if they may be eligible to participate should contact Kathi Latson, the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program Coordinator (NOEP) at (607) 723-8313 x590.

Sincerely,

Kathi Latson
