Governor Cuomo bans tractor trailers on several interstates in Upstate New York

Winter-Storm-Warning-1Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced temporary travel bans for large commercial trucks on interstates in the Syracuse-Binghamton-Rochester areas, as heavy bands of snow continue to make driving difficult.


The New York State Thruway Authority is implementing a temporary travel ban for all tractor trailers, including tandem trailers, on I-90 between Exit 32 (Westmoreland – Rome – NY Route 233) and Exit 48 (Batavia – NY Route 98) due to the current winter weather event. 

The New York State Department of Transportation is banning tractor trailers on the following highways:

· I-81 from Exit 31/Bartel Road in Brewerton, Onondaga County, to Exit 6/I-88 in the town of Chenango, Broome County· I-690 in Syracuse from the NYS Thruway to I-81· I-390 from Exit 12/NYS Thruway in Rochester to I-86 in the town of Avoca, Steuben County.


These temporary bans will remain in place until 6 a.m., pending additional updates. 

All motorists are encouraged to travel only if necessary and to do so using extreme caution.
